Some Improvement

Tags

After my last sketch I watched more videos on sketching to try to get down the fundamentals, and I think I made some improvement. I realized I was holding the pencil as if I was writing, instead of using it more like a paintbrush. I also realized I had to shade in the dark areas and blend to light. I think this shows improvement. The image is Christina Aguilera, by the way. Oh, that’s another thing. I studied the reference image and kept it on the screen as I was drawing. I never did that before since most of the things I draw are from my head. This was done with a regular mechanical pencil and a Q-tip. I’m definitely going to have to buy some good sketching paper, pencils and tortillions now. :)

Kind of. I actually think this is one of the best sketches I’ve ever done, but the shading is the fail. Not sure if I like sketching like this. I drew the shape with the lines like I see others do, but she looks so pretty…so normal. So boring!! I like my funny looking people. And I hate doing the lines. I’d rather just freestyle everything. But yeah, I need to work on shading. I made the mistake of shading with the pencil up, so everything is one color. It’s not realistic or defined. I’m not upset though. It’s not too bad for a sketch that was done within minutes!! I’ll do better next time though. I’m going to have to buy some sketching supplies, because I like this medium.

I’m so disappointed with this. Ugh. No words. And the canvas was so promising.  :worried:
